Rudy’s Rule #1: Everyday is the BEST DAY EVER

lydiagphillips

It is time we start living our lives like Rudy and any other dog in the universe. Time to live your life through the eyes of a dog or pet. They don't need fancy clothes and big houses, but someone to love them and take care of them…that is all they need to have the best day everyday.

This past summer I moved down to West Palm, Florida after accepting an interior design internship. My aunt and uncle, Torey and George, graciously housed me for the past two months, along with their dog Rudy! I had a goal to achieve a healthy lifestyle even though I was working an 8-5 job. Torey and George already had this ideal lifestyle and I was ready to jump right in on their daily routine. The routine being a 4am alarm every morning. Meanwhile the thought of waking up before 8am made me nauseous. But as the first day of my internship rolled around I'd decided to give it a shot. When the alarm went off I thought to myself… “This is going to be a long summer”.

So I rolled out of bed with my eyes still closed, walked out the bedroom door and guess who was wide away sitting there with his tail wagging so eagerly, it was mister Rudy man. He woke up and knew it was going to be the BEST DAY EVER. Now he wasn’t getting ready for his new internship, or having some crazy day. He was getting ready to eat the same breakfast he had for the past 7 years, go for a walk, and maybe swim later. It's not a lot, but he still acts like it is the best day ever.

You don’t need to do crazy, extravagant, new adventures everyday to have the best day ever. Sometimes all you need is the simple little routinely joys. Now don't get me wrong, spending a day in Turks and Caicos may be a better day than a day in Knoxville, Tennessee. But it's about grasping the little joys in those everyday routines or even implementing them that can make everyday the best day ever. Whether that's the taste of your first sip of coffee in the morning, wiping the sweat off your head after a hard workout, or making the same joke to the same coworker you see every single day. It is time to be present in every moment everyday, instead of wishing the presence away, wishing the weeks away, and wishing for the weekends.
